Motseng:

Motseng, meaning ‘At the Village’ is the most recent addition to the Lindani stable having opened on 9th May 2008. As with the other lodges, it will take single party bookings only.

It is different from the other lodges in that it has the flexibility to be suitable for both large and smaller groups.

The core of Motseng is the Main House (6 beds) together with the Games Room

(4 beds) immediately alongside it. In addition there are two completely separate and fully equipped cottages to handle any overflow from the Main House. This means that, where there is a large group, guests can have their own space in their unit as well as being able to eat and socialize together with everyone in the party at the Main House, the Games Room the swimming pool and the outdoor lapa when they wish to do so.

It is ideal for ‘three-generation’ family get-togethers, friendship groups comprising a number of different families or other friendship groups such as church groups, cycling clubs etc.

It is child friendly and has been designed as a place for families with children to have fun and quality time together. The large swimming pool, the games room, the open spaces in front of the main buildings, the cycle and walking trails and the child friendly Melkrivier all combine to offer plenty to exhaust the kids.

Midweek it will be possible to book the Main House and the Games Room without the other units having to be opened at the same time so that smaller groups will not feel the lodge is too large for them.

Motseng faces north east, is situated against a mountain looking across a wide open field with a large waterhole where game often comes to drink in the evening. Across the field is the Melkrivier. The lodge is close to a rewarding cycling trail as well as two marked walking trails.

The four separate buildings that make up Motseng are all conversions and restorations of old farm buildings that were in existence when we bought the farm. By converting existing buildings, we have created a new family lodge in early ‘Transvaal Farmhouse’ style without increasing the footprint.

We have tried to make the total complex both parent and child friendly with space for the kids but in sight of parents. We have one wheel chair friendly bedroom in the Main House. In addition the Games Room, the swimming pool (by means of a ramp into the pool) and the outside braai lapa are accessible to wheel chairs.

Activities:

Walking:

It is not necessary to be a serious hiker to enjoy walking at Lindani. The varied scenery offers plenty for those looking to walk shorter distances than the Hiking Trails. By combining portions of the hiking trails with the farm roads, it is possible to access some of the best corners of the farm. The map provided will make planning a walk very easy

Recreational Cycling:

For those who simply want to ride in open country away from traffic, the network of farm roads provides a perfect opportunity. Surfaces are firm with little sand to worry about and the scenery is rewarding. Game can often be seen on the ride. This option offers rides of up to 40 kms.

While there are some long uphill stretches, gradients are generally moderate and suitable for the whole family including young children.

Lindani has good quality entry level mountain bikes for hire - see Tariffs.

Game Viewing:

Lindani has an attractive range of game - giraffe, kudu, waterbuck, eland, zebra, wildebeest, red hartebeest, impala, bushbuck and various other mammals. Guests are free to drive themselves anywhere on the farm roads, other than in the private lodge areas. Night drives, motor bikes and quadbikes are NOT allowed.

Lindani also offers evening and early morning guided drives in an open Landcruiser of approximately two and a half hours - see Tariffs.

Birding:

Because of the many different habitats on the farm - bush, forest, open fields and dams - there is a good variety of birds - there are 230 species on the bird list. Guests are provided with a bird list and bird guide books are provided in each lodge to assist with identification. Guests are free to bird anywhere on the property other than around individual lodges other than their own.

Flora:

Trees in particular, with their variety and elegant shapes, make a major contribution to the beauty of Lindani. The best way to enjoy them is to walk the trails. A tree list is provided plus guide books are available in each lodge to assist with identification. While the Waterberg does not seek to compete with the Western Cape, there is nevertheless a considerable variety of flowering plants. The best time for veld flowers is late November and December depending on what the early summer rainfall has been. A detailed list of flowering plants is available on request.

Canoeing:

Canoeing is possible on a dam on the neighbouring farm owned by the son of Lindani’s owners. It has been necessary to stop all canoeing on the Palala River because of the increasing presence of Hippo.

Picnic Sites:

There are five picnic sites all near water where guests can relax and enjoy the surroundings. The sites on the Koperspruit and Melkrivier are particularly child friendly. Provided Lindani has had a reasonable season, these are lovely clear streams where children can play and swim in safety. It is not safe to swim in the Palala River and the dams.
